The Municipal Library is the parent house of the Schaffhausen libraries and is organised as a storeroom library where books are ordered and collected at the counter. It contains the older books of the library. The rich historical book stock is also stored in its protected cultural property room. The Scaphusiana (literature about Schaffhausen and from Schaffhausen publishers and authors) is also kept in the municipal library. In total, the stock of the Municipal Library on Münsterplatz comprises around 230,000 units.
