How much does a membership of the Schaffhausen libraries cost?

The use of the Schaffhausen libraries is free of charge for all residents of the city and region of Schaffhausen. The only charges are for services such as printouts, scans, copies etc. and for reminders.

How do I search for media in the catalog?

The easiest way to search is directly in the “bisch online” catalog. Using the simple search, you can search for words from the title, names (author, performer, etc.) or subjects. An advanced search and prepared search queries (for bestsellers, new releases, current topics) are also available.

How can I borrow media on site?

You will need a library card to borrow items. You can either register online via our catalog and then pick up your library card at the library counter by presenting your ID. Or you can make a library card directly at the library counter.

How many items can I borrow at the same time?

You can borrow a maximum of 30 items per library card.

How long can I borrow the media?

Books, DVDs, Play Station games, CDs, cassettes and Tonie figures can be borrowed for four weeks. All media can be renewed twice, except they are reserved by other customers.

Can I extend borrowed media?

Yes, you can renew the borrowed media regularly via your personal user account. Help for logging in: You can find the user number on the back of your library card. After login you will find the media renewal under “My data” > “Account”

How can I reserve certain media or reserve borrowed media for myself?

If your item is available to borrow from the library, search the media title, click the button “Reserve”, log yourself in and confirm the reservation. It will then be available for collection the next day. If your desired medium is currently still borrowed, you can reserve it for yourself. Search the media title, click the button “Reserve” log yourself in and confirm the reservation. It will then be ready for collection as soon as the item has been returned.

What happens if I forget to return my media?

After the loan period has expired, you will receive a reminder to return the media (1st reminder). Two weeks after the loan period has expired, a 2nd reminder will follow (fee of CHF 10) and after a another two weeks a 3rd reminder (additional fee of CHF 20).

How can I use the digital services of the Schaffhausen libraries?

To use these services, log in with your user number and password. The Schaffhausen libraries have a wide range of online services with e-books, streaming services for films and music and much more.

How can I order an item from another location?

There is a free courier service between the locations Stadtbibliothek am Münsterplatz, Agnesenschütte and Gemeindebibliothek Neuhausen. If you would like to order an item from another location, select the “Reserve” button. After logging into your user account, you can select the desired pick-up location under “Pick up in…”.

How can I order media from other libraries?

In this case you can order media via interlibrary loan. Use our online form for interlibrary loans or place your order directly at the Schaffhausen Libraries counter. The cost for interlibrary loans within Switzerland is CHF 10 per item; prices for abroad are determined on a case-by-case basis.
